We video test the 2019 Mitsubishi Triton 4WD GLX-R
The Mitsubishi Triton for 2019 is cementing its position as a Ute which is consistently gaining popularity and shows no signs of slowing down.
In GLX-R specification, the Triton represents excellent value for money and peace of mind ownership thanks to the Diamond warranty programme offered by Mitsubishi across the 14-strong Triton range.
There is a GLX-R available as a 2WD, but for those who need it, there is a 4WD model available with Mitsubishi’s dial-up Easy Select transmission, which gives you the option of rear wheel drive as standard, 4WD hi which can be used on tarmac to mud and sand and 4WD lo for anything 4WD hi can’t handle.
Powered by the 2.4 litre MIVEC turbo diesel with 135kW of power and 437Nm of torque at its disposal, the fuel economy figure of 8.6 litres per 100kms is very achievable with either the six-speed automatic or manual transmission.
The Triton’s five-star safety rating ensures you are getting some top end equipment in addition to the 7 airbags, active traction control, hill start assist, reversing camera, Smart brake and brake assist.
You also gain a lane departure warning and forward collision mitigation system.
Mitsubishi’s Smartphone Link Display and 7-inch touchscreen gives you Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility, and the multifunctional steering wheel allows for voice command functionality.
As to the GLX-R’s working credentials, the 4WD variant boasts a 3,500kg tow rating on a braked trailer, with one of the easiest to load and more generous trays of the top performing Utes in the market. Off the showroom floor, the GLX-R has a 935kg payload.
Triton’s underpinnings ensure agility and ability with a coil spring front and sports suspension rear leaf spring with a larger shock absorber, ensuring greater ride comfort and quality.
