2021 Ford Transit Cargo

Video Road Report, Workhorse

We video review the 2021 Ford Transit Cargo 350E High roof.

It’s 2021 and the dawn of a new drive for Ford’s Transit Cargo – quite literally. The versatile Ford Transit is now available with not only rear-wheel-drive, which increases towing capacity, provides better handling stability and ease of maintenance, it also comes with the impressive feature of a 10-speed automatic transmission. This is the same transmission you’ll find in the 5-litre Mustang, which for the Transit, means better fuel economy and ease of driving with less stress on the already capable 2-litre turbo diesel.

That 2-litre engine generates 125kW and 390Nm of torque as well as returning what we believe to be best-in-class fuel economy at 7.3 litres per 100km. The Transit delivers a very relaxed driving experience since one of the advantages of a transmission which allows the engine to operate in its sweet spot, is reduced driver fatigue.

Multiple tie-down points and hard plastic floor protection along with the ability to accommodate a Euro pallet between the wheel arches are the highlights of the cargo area. The cabin has combined function with form and fitment, resulting in an efficient workspace which wraps up a raft of comfort and safety features, including adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, roll over mitigation, torque vectoring control and curve control in addition to the more anticipated systems.

However, it is the significant enhancements to connectivity which were the latest technological advancements. In addition to – and in this order – Bluetooth, Ford’s SYNC 3, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Ford Transit boasts FordPass Connect; embedded modem technology which allows drivers/owners to interact with the van via cellphone app to remotely lock and unlock the doors, start the engine and monitor the van’s location in real time as well as communicating to Ford service centres.

With all of this, could the Transit get any better? Well, there is the comprehensive warranty and aftersales package which sees the 2021 Ford Transit Cargo a van for tomorrow as much as today.
