We video review the 2023 Peugeot e-Expert van.
The light commercial world has changed forever and one of the world’s oldest automakers has embraced the future of the sustainable transport of goods. That brand is Peugeot. A long serving Partner to the light commercial user, so much so that the brand is considered Expert in such matters, Peugeot is driving into the electric vehicle age with its two commercial vehicle offerings – the e-Partner for the small/compact van segment and the e-Expert for the medium.
The e-Expert is the most recent addition to the e-LCV offering and – while it retains all the excellence of its award-winning ICE stablemate – it also brings Peugeot’s outstanding electric vehicle technology to the light commercial sector. It’s this technology which gives the e-Expert its nominal 339km range from the 75kWh battery, intelligently mounted under the floor to maximise cargo space.
The battery can be recharged on the road from a high-speed DC charger in as little as 72 minutes – from 0 to 80% -- or in 11.2 hours using a domestic 7.4kWh wallbox. The e-Expert is probably not going to go through its battery charge in a day, so regular overnight recharging on a standard 10-amp wall socket is likely to keep you mobile without needing to top up.
The battery supplies energy to the 100kW, 260Nm electric motor and all that torque is instantly available to transport the 1000kg payload of whatever you might have in the 5.8 cubic metre cargo bay with its through-the-bulkhead long load capability. And while the role of the e-Expert is cargo carrying, there’s no reason why work shouldn’t be enjoyable, and Peugeot has instilled its expertise with building elegantly refined passenger cars into the light commercial e-Expert.
As such, the e-Expert cabin interior looks like it came from a car while the occupant ergonomics feel very close to what you might find in a sedan. The excellent handling characteristics – or chassis dynamics – really demonstrate how well Peugeot has taken its 127 years of car-building success, adapted it and built it into the immensely driveable, environmentally considerate, and well-equipped e-Expert.
