Holidaymakers heading away for Easter and ANZAC weekends are encouraged to pull over, rest and recharge at any of the six AMI Driver Reviver events happening across the country.
Each stop offers travellers free barista made coffees and snacks - including fresh off the BBQ – all aimed at helping drivers stay recharged on long journeys.
Driver fatigue is a serious road safety concern during busy holiday periods. AMI’s claims data typically shows an increase in vehicle collision claims over holiday periods, highlighting the importance of drivers remaining alert and ready to respond to conditions.
Gary Rennie, AMI Community Events Manager, says: “These events are all about promoting safe driving habits. Navigating large volumes of traffic can add an additional layer of exhaustion too. We want to help travellers stay alert and arrive safely at their destinations by offering an opportunity for a break and practical tips to combat driver fatigue, especially on long journeys.”
Now in its sixth year, the AMI Driver Reviver series is the result of collaboration with community risk experts, including local council road safety teams, New Zealand Police, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, Hato Hone St John, with strong support from local food groups like Satisfy Food Rescue and KiwiHarvest.
“These partnerships have helped AMI support over 17,500 drivers to stop and have a break during their travels,” adds Gary.
“Too often drivers tell us stories about driving even when they’re feeling exhausted - this is something we’re working to change.
“If you see the bright teal and yellow AMI flag when passing through, be sure to stop in, and come and say hello,” adds Gary Rennie.
