ChargeNet launches Autocharge, making EV charging as easy as plugging in

News

ChargeNet has launched Autocharge, a new feature that makes charging an electric vehicle as simple as plugging it in.

With Autocharge enabled, compatible EVs will automatically start charging once plugged into a ChargeNet fast charger that supports Autocharge. There’s no need to open an app, tap an RFID fob, scan a QR code or press a screen. Just plug in and the charge session will start automatically.

ChargeNet Head of Growth & Commercial, Roberto Balzarelli says Autocharge is designed to build on the reliability and coverage EV drivers already expect from ChargeNet, to make EV charging effortless.

“Autocharge makes charging on the ChargeNet network as simple as possible. It’s designed to remove those small frictions points and make EV charging even easier,” Balzarelli says.

Once set up, Autocharge works quietly in the background. Drivers can step away to grab a coffee, do the groceries or stretch their legs, knowing their vehicle is charging.

The initial release of Autocharge is aimed at everyday EV drivers and can be enabled through the ChargeNet app once a compatible vehicle has been detected charging on the network.

Autocharge is currently available at most ChargeNet DC fast-charging sites and supports CCS plug-type vehicles. Some chargers and vehicle models are not yet compatible, and CHAdeMO vehicles – like Nissan Leafs – do not support the feature.

“For compatible vehicles, Autocharge genuinely changes the EV experience for the better. Our customers who’ve had early access have really enjoyed it – one even called it “magic”, and many have told us that this is the way charging should be.”

Balzarelli says making charging feel easier is an important step in helping EVs fit seamlessly into everyday life, particularly as more New Zealanders make the switch.

To enable Autocharge, customers need to register their vehicle in the ChargeNet app and switch Autocharge on when prompted.
