In a move set to reshape New Zealand's automotive landscape, Giltrap Group has launched NordEast Vehicle Distributors, a powerhouse new division uniting six brands from the global Geely Group portfolio under a single distributor for the first time anywhere in the world.
This ambitious venture not only introduces the cutting-edge premium brand Zeekr to Kiwi shores but also aims to capture a staggering 85% of the country's entire electrified vehicle market. For New Zealand businesses and fleet operators, the launch signals a pivotal moment. NordEast is not just focused on premium passenger cars; it brings a dedicated commercial vehicle offering through Farizon, a brand specifically designing new energy vans for fleet decarbonisation. This directly addresses a critical need in the local market. Dane Fisher, Group General Manager for NordEast, emphasised a strategy of aggressive accessibility.
"We are redefining what Kiwis expect from electrification," Fisher stated. "We are offering low emission vehicles at price parity of internal combustion engine vehicles, making electrified vehicles more affordable for New Zealand consumers and businesses, ensuring that electrification and the latest technology is accessible for everyone."
The scale of the operation is unprecedented. NordEast combines the heritage and innovation of Volvo, the performance of Polestar, the iconic design of Lotus, the affordability of Geely, the commercial focus of Farizon, and the premium disruption of Zeekr.
This comprehensive suite of products—spanning hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and full battery electric vehicles—is designed to meet enduring Kiwi preferences. With SUVs and utes holding 74% of the market, NordEast confirmed its portfolio includes a range of electrified SUVs and, crucially, a fully electric ute is on the horizon. Michael Giltrap, speaking at the launch event, called it a "once-in-a-generation moment for New Zealand motoring." He added, "With NordEast, we’re building on decades of distribution heritage to set a new benchmark for the adoption of electrification."The venture is underpinned by an ambitious target: to deliver 5,000 fully electrified vehicles within just three years.
Zeekr Arrives as the Premium Disruptor
A significant highlight of the launch is the official New Zealand debut of Zeekr, Geely's global electric performance brand. Zeekr is positioned to challenge the premium EV segment with a compelling blend of technology, performance, and luxury. The initial models and pricing announced for New Zealand are:
* Zeekr 001 (performance wagon/shooting brake) – From $149,900
* Zeekr 009 (luxury 6-seat MPV) – From $154,900
* Zeekr 7X (SUV) – Pricing to be confirmed in September 2025
A Network Ready to Roll
This is no soft launch. NordEast is hitting the ground running with a robust national footprint. A total of 14 locations are already confirmed across Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington, and Christchurch, encompassing 29 showrooms nationwide.
The new Geely, Farizon, and Zeekr network will be available from September 15th, ensuring broad access for customers from day one.
