Mercedes upgrades A-Class

Vehicle Fitout

Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing and specifications for the new generation, and even sportier, Mercedes-Benz A-Class, which is on sale now, and which combined benchmark driving dynamics and safety technologies with enhanced design and connectivity features.

Value is a key point of the new range, right from the entry A 180, which has such technology as keyless start, Garmin Map Pilot satnav, blind spot assistance, reversing camera, and dynamic Select Drive, which adjusts suspension, engine, transmission, steering and even the aircon, in four different driving modes ranging from Eco, through Sport and Comfort to Individual. There are also 17 inch alloy wheels and a new black diamond grille. Fitted with a 1.6-litre turbo-charged engine which produces 90kW/200Nm, and driving through a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, it has claimed overall fuel consumption of 5.8L/100km.

The A 200 (petrol) produces 115kW/250Nm, also from a 1.6-litre engine and includes 18 inch wheels, a mirror package and sports seats with lumbar support in addition to the entry level equipment. Claimed overall consumption is 5.7L/100km.Sharing the identical level of
specification, the A 200 d consumes 4.0 L/100km, while producing 100kW/300Nm from a 2.1-litre turbo-diesel engine.

The A 250 Sport 4Matic all-wheel-drive model now produces 160kW/350Nm driving through a 7G-DCT dual-clutch transmission. Kit includes 18 inch AMG wheels, AMG body styling, AMG Ride Control suspension, LED fixed headlamps, Keyless-go, a panoramic sunroof, and ambient lighting with 12 colours. Claimed overall consumption is 6.7L/100km

The Mercedes-AMG A 45 4Matic is the sports hotshot, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in only 4.2 seconds, and produces 280kW/475Nm. It has revised gear ratios, aerodynamic fine-tuning, and the new AMG Dynamic Select (including Race Mode), as well as the AMG Dynamic Plus package which sharpens up the vehicle dynamics even further. Claimed combined economy is 6.9L/100km

One major component on the A 45 is the newly developed mechanical front axle locking differential, which significantly improves traction in sporty driving environments. The greatest advantages become apparent during fast acceleration out of bends, where the differential allows maximum grip and high rates of lateral acceleration.

Other features 19 inch AMG wheels, AMG Performance Seats, AMG Performance Exhaust, Comand navigation, Harman Kardon sound system, Distronic Plus active cruise control, and heated front seats..

There’s also a special "Motorsport Edition" model available on the A 250 Sport 4Matic, with F1-derived Petronas green highlights on the rim flanges of the AMG wheels, AMG rear aerofoil,
areas of the front and rear bumper trim, and exterior mirrors. Details carried into the interior include Petronas green surrounds of the air vents and contrasting top stitching.

Safety features on the A Class range (depending on models) range from the drowsiness detection system Attention Assist to Distronic Plus, as well as nine airbags Pre-safe, Blind Spot Assist, Collision Prevention Assist Plus and an Active Bonnet. The A 45 also gets Lane Keeping Assist (Passive) as standard.

The latest A-Class is the first Mercedes-Benz model to be available with the comprehensive Smartphone integration, including Apple CarPlay (for iPhone owners). In the case of e.g. Apple CarPlay the system supports telephoning, navigation and listening to music, receiving and sending text messages and emails as well as Siri voice control.
