Ready for the next step in EVs with Evnex

Vehicle manufacturers are slowly bringing more EV options to market, but some are still dabbling in the field. Charging point infrastructure suppliers are another thing all together. 

Some would say the infrastructure suppliers have it slightly easier than vehicle manufacturers. The products are easier to develop – compared to a vehicle anyway – which makes becoming a supplier of in-demand products relatively easy, if one has knowledge and drive.

All of which brings us to a young company in the EV charging market in the form of Evnex, a New Zealand business started by Ed Harvey back in 2014. 

Evnex started – not with an eye to getting on the EV bandwagon – but rather with Ed’s personal passion for electric vehicles, which began in his university days when he converted a conventionally-powered Honda Accord to an all-electric vehicle.

This fascination with electric vehicles led Ed to start up his company, basing its product and development on his personal passion in his local Christchurch, back in 2014.  

Evnex is not quite a family business, though Ed’s brother Henry was one of the first to join, along with Jason Zhang and Aaron Ang. 

Together, they have built Evnex into what it is now: an exporter and current national supplier of charging solutions for residential, commercial and major electricity distributors.

So, what makes Evnex so different to every other supplier? 

“The primary point of difference,” says Ed, “is horizontal integration, developing our cloud reporting software alongside our charging station hardware has enabled us to provide a more refined solution, and better support for our customers.” 

Additionally to this, the Evnex solution is designed and manufactured here in New Zealand. Despite having already begun exporting internationally, the business is keen to maintain a strong local presence.

While that may not be the first reason for supporting the company, it’s for sure a darned good one.  

Evnex’s business philosophy also includes a heavy focus on sustainability. “It made sense for a company that produces the infrastructure for a electric mobility to build in a commitment to sustainability,” explains Ed. “That’s always been a huge driver for us.

For this reason, distribution of every Evnex charge point is done using biodegradable and recyclable packaging and every charge point sold results in a contribution to permanent native forestry projects. 

Ethical considerations aside, there are other practical business reasons to partner with Evnex, and for your company – regardless of what or where it is now – to take the next step of electrification.

And you wouldn’t be the only smart company to run with Evnex; the company’s systems have been in service for a considerable amount of time as public systems provided by Vector, one of the valuable partnerships Evnex has developed to help roll out its product.

The roll out has proven successful and Evnex is now considered a major charging infrastructure supplier, which is why the company has moved up a notch and is now in a position to not only supply, but also advise corporates, businesses and residential consumers on how to handle their specific charging requirements.  

“We are a solutions-focused company,” adds Ed, “as proven by our existing partnerships. We can take customers through initial consultation, to installation and provisioning, using our locally developed hardware and cloud-based software in plain, simple English.

“We also make sure our customers have everything they need and nothing they don’t, and having developed our hardware, software and connectivity from the ground up, our customers know they’ve got just one number to call if they’ve got a problem.” 

This has served as a taster of what Evnex has to offer – which is a one-stop shop for newcomers to the world of the electric lifestyle which has, at its heart, the electric vehicle.
