We video review the 2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV in XLS spec

EV

Demonstrating amazing agility on the part of an automaker, Mitsubishi has tried and tested the waters with its PHEV product and now we are seeing the very latest in updates with this, the second generation of the electrified Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. Sitting comfortably now between the Outlander and the ASX, the Eclipse Cross PHEV is finding favour with those who want the eco conscious advantages of an electrified vehicle with the reassurance of an internal combustion engine. Add to that a stylish design, high appointment /surprise and delight factor and the ability to travel everywhere and anywhere thanks to Mitsubishi’s rally-derived AWD matched to Super All Wheel Control (for confident travel on a variety of surfaces), and it’s easy to see why the Eclipse Cross is being received so well by New Zealand buyers.

Mitsubishi’s Eclipse Cross also offers five-star ANCAP safety with an extensive range of features across both models with a better-than-expected complement onboard the XLS model which shares blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and reversing camera integrated into the 8-inch SDA touchscreen with its Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and Bluetooth compatibility with the higher grade VRX model.

As with most PHEV’s the Eclipse Cross gives the driver the ability to lock out any input from the 2.4 litre MIVEC petrol engine under the bonnet and use the two electric motors for emission and fuel-free travel up to 55kms. The 13.8kWh battery can be charged in 25 minutes from a high-speed charger or recharged overnight which would be typical. Should you be travelling further afield, the system does allow a little bit of on-the-move regenerative charging while on longer trips and with the battery and ICE engine combined, you have a range of some 650kms. Mitsubishi says an expected fuel figure is 1.9 litres per 100km with 43 grams/km of CO2 emitted.

An adventure vehicle with style, sustainability and stunningly affordable pricing, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross puts the power of choice into the future of mainstream motoring.
