New start for bent Aston

A damaged Aston Martin Rapide that was involved in a high profile single car collision on Tamaki Drive in Auckland last October has found a new home and a new lease of life. The vehicle was sold by Turners Auctions in a $1 reserve auction with all the profits going to youth charity Students Against Driving Drunk (SADD).

The winning bid of $12,783 resulted in a total profit of $3,783 for the charity. Turners also donated all transport costs and fees to ensure maximum profit for SADD. The money will support activities aimed at reducing teenage road deaths and injuries from drink driving.

The current value of the car is difficult to ascertain. However, the back-end and the majority of the interior of the car are undamaged with an array of valuable  parts.

Turners CEO Todd Hunter says the sale of the car brings a happy ending to the story.

“We acquired this car as part of our CashNow programme with the hope of generating as much money as possible for SADD. We did not expect the level of attention the auction received and we are thrilled with the response. The listing generated more than 85,000 page views, 108 questions, over 100 bids and is one of the most popular Trade Me auctions of the year to date. The winner has received a great bargain on this premium damaged car and we are excited to deliver 100% of the profits to the charity.

“This auction demonstrates that all vehicles, regardless of the condition or make have value with Turners’ CashNow programme”, says Hunter.

SADD CEO, Anna Braidwood, says that she is delighted with the outcome of the auction.

“The efforts to raise these additional funds for SADD has been outstanding and the donation will be put to good use in our busy term one calendar of training events for students.  Turners Auctions has been a sponsor of our programme for the past five years and its support has had a significant impact, enabling us to launch and run initiatives that have engaged hundreds of schools and thousands of students.

“We are currently working alongside Turners to deliver a series of Young Driver- First Car events in four regions this March, which will support hundreds of teens and their parents who are going through the process of getting teen drivers mobile safely.  We are excited about these first time events and we look forward to delivering yet more benefit to our students, schools and communities with Turners support.”
