Pricing for all new, Euro-styled Toyota C-HR hybrid revealed

Designed and built in Europe, the new C-HR brings a higher level of avant-garde design and refinement to the model, which has been a strong seller in the compact SUV market since it was first introduced.

In line with customer preference and in keeping with the marques determination to reduce tailpipe carbon emissions from its portfolio by 46% by 2030, the new C-HR is only available in hybrid powertrains. For performance enthusiasts there will be a substantially upgraded GR Sport version with a larger engine and E-Four all-wheel drive system.

Pricing for the new C-HR will start at $45,990 for the GX 1.8 litre hybrid with front wheel drive. Then moving up the range the GXL will retail for $49,990, the C-HR Limited for $52,990 and the GR Sport with a 2-litre hybrid powertrain will be available for $55,990.

Toyota New Zealand Vice President of New Vehicles, Steve Prangnell, says that in Limited guise, the new C-HR is arguably the most luxurious new passenger vehicle available from Toyota in New Zealand.

“The new C-HR is quite different from the first generation. It has bold, sophisticated styling with coupe-like lines which are accentuated by a sharp new two-tone paint option for the Limited and GR Sport. The interior has been completely redesigned with a European look and feel that takes the C-HR up and above its rivals,” he says.

Toyota C-HR first broke the mould of SUV design with its slanting rear and aggressive face in 2017. The new car is rendered even more sharply in the new model with its “super-coupe” profile. The frontal treatment presents the new face for Toyota SUVs, seen also on the all-electric bZ4X due to arrive in early 2024.

The new C-HR is marginally shorter and wider than the current model giving it a striking, sporty and planted stance on the road, that is further enhanced by its coupe-like profile, short overhangs and 17, 18 and 19-inch alloy wheels.

With a combined maximum power output of 103kW, the new 1.8-litre hybrid powertrain offers almost 15 per cent more power than the current hybrid version. All variants include a fifth generation HEV system with a Lithium-Ion battery. The C-HR will tow 725kg braked or unbraked.

While the new powertrains are designed to help improve fuel economy and reduce CO2 tailpipe emissions, the new C-HR also features other innovations and measures to help reduce its carbon footprint. Compared to its predecessor, the new generation C-HR has double the content of recycled plastics - used in more than 100 different parts.

The GR Sport version of the C-HR will no doubt excite many buyers. Not only has it received more power with the 2-litre engine matched to the HEV system producing a total of 145kW, but it will sit on 19-inch gloss black alloy wheels. Inside, the GR Sport has synthetic leather and suede seat material with an embossed GR logo on front seat headrest and red stitching. The driver hangs on to a GR sport steering wheel with red stitching and perforation.

A new iteration of Toyota Safety Sense is included. The updated system adds motorcycle detection to the pre-collision system as well as a driver monitor camera. Automatic High Beam is present on the GX, upgrading to Adaptive High-beam System for all other grades. Toyota Teammate (Advanced Park), Panoramic View Monitor, and Parking Support Brake with Rear-Cross Traffic Auto Braking are included on all grades. A blind spot monitor with safe exit assist is also added as an active safety feature.

Across the range of four models, 13 exterior colours will be available. There will be seven mono-tone options for the GX, GXL and Limited, four two-tone options for the Limited. The GR Sport will be available in four mono-tone options and four two-tone options.

First stock units of the exciting new C-HR will arrive in New Zealand in the first quarter of 2024. Prospective buyers are encouraged to contact their local Toyota Store and register their interest early as the first shipment from Europe is not likely to gather much dust in the Toyota New Zealand warehouse.
