Ute of the Year 2024 - Next-generation Mitsubishi Triton

News

The next-generation Mitsubishi Triton has been named the Company Vehicle ‘Ute of the Year’ for 2024, thanks to its comprehensive blend of versatility, performance, and advanced features that make it an ideal choice for a wide range of business needs.

The new Triton offers an extensive range that caters to different working requirements, from 2WD Single Cabs to 4WD Double Cabs, ensuring there’s a model suitable for virtually any trade or profession. However, for us, the Double Cab stands out with its excellent balance of utility and comfort.

Built on a revamped platform, the Mitsubishi Triton showcases increased dimensions with 15mm more in length, 50mm in both width and wheel track, and a wheelbase extending to 3130mm. The upgraded ladder chassis provides 40 percent more bending rigidity and 60 percent more torsional rigidity, effectively enhancing driving comfort and reducing road noise. Its bold design features include a detailed front grille, sleek LED lights, flared arches, and 18-inch alloys, presenting a robust and masculine silhouette.

Under the hood, the Triton is powered by a formidable 2.4L MIVEC biTurbo diesel engine, producing 150kW and 470Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox. The Super Select II four-wheel-drive system adds versatility with 7 drive modes to tackle various terrains, making it equally adept on city roads and rugged trails. It boasts an admirable fuel efficiency of 8.8L/100km and emissions of 233g/km, balancing power with environmental considerations.

With a towing capacity of 3,500kg, the Triton meets substantial hauling needs, vital for businesses requiring strong and reliable transport capabilities. The cargo bed, while lacking power outlets, is spacious enough for a euro pallet and provides essential utility.

Internally, the Triton features supportive seats, upscale trim, and a host of tech amenities. It includes USB-C and USB-A ports, wireless charging, and ample storage, contributing to a spacious and comfortable environment. The nine-inch infotainment display equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and a 360-degree camera enhances convenience and connectivity. Safety is a priority with a five-star ANCAP rating and advanced driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control, Forward Collision Mitigation, and Lane Departure Warning, delivering peace of mind to drivers.

The Mitsubishi Triton GLX-R’s combination of improved towing capacity, competitive performance, advanced technology, and thoughtful design elements make it a standout in its class. Its ability to handle both professional demands and personal adventures with ease, contributed to it claiming our ‘Ute of the Year’ for 2024, a more than worthy winner.
