The Volkswagen Golf has been crowned the Best Fleet Medium Car at this year’s Great British Fleet Awards.

The award was announced at a celebration dinner following the Great British Fleet Event in Milton Keynes, which showcased the latest launches, solutions and developments in the fleet sector. The Great British Fleet Awards, judged by Fleet World’s expert panel, honour excellence in fleet management as well as products and services that help companies to run safe, environmentally sustainable and cost-effective fleets.

John Challen, Fleet World Editor, said: “Celebrating more than 50 years in the automotive world, Volkswagen’s Golf continues to go from strength to strength. It is economical, offers a vast range of powertrains across all body styles and is a pleasant place to be. The phrase ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ comes to mind, because the Golf continues to do everything so well.”

Commenting on the award, Owen Shepherd, Head of Direct Sales at Volkswagen UK, said: “The Golf has been a firm favourite with business and retail customers for the past five decades, and our recently updated version is once again setting the standards in its sector.

“The plug-in hybrid Match, Style and GTE versions in particular are immensely popular fleet cars. They combine assured driving characteristics with up to 88 miles of WLTP-combined electric-only range and fast 40 kW DC charging. Throw in CO2 emissions as low as six grammes per kilometre and current benefit-in-kind tax rates of just six per cent – not to mention generous space for people and baggage – and it’s clear these cars are true thoroughbreds.”
