BAIC expands global footprint and accelerates into New Zealand market

New models

With more than six decades of automotive engineering and manufacturing expertise and a presence in more than 90 markets around the globe BAIC is excited to be able to provide Kiwis with the ability to experience the new BAIC models and the comfort, quality and capabilities they bring.

Set to launch locally at the end of February, the initial lineup will consist of two models, the X55 Premium and B30, with the latter available in three different variants - Elite Adventure, Premium Adventure HEV and Premium Adventure HEV All-Wheel Drive.

“BAIC is a brand with a broad international footprint shaped by more than 68 years of product evolution. It has a proven reputation for developing capable family-orientated vehicles with practical features and attributes, with the ability to venture off the beaten track,” said Simon Rutherford, CEO Auto Distribution Holdings Limited.

“BAIC is a smart, credible and thoughtfully designed choice for everyday New Zealanders. The X55 and B30 models will fit naturally alongside the daily lives of Kiwis and offer the combination of space, performance and utility that consumers are searching for at an accessible price.”

“BAIC already has an award-winning pedigree in righthand drive markets such as South Africa, Indonesia and Malaysia and Kiwis will be drawn to the new models as they look great, perform well and fit our outdoors way of life.”

“The X55 and B30 are hugely capable, spacious and feature-rich models which handle the day-to-day with ease but are also up for the unplanned detour when adventure calls.”

“BAIC owners will also have every confidence in their new vehicle, thanks to the brand’s solid history consisting of decades of engineering capability and know-how. It’s this longevity, combined with a seven-year warranty that will deliver a high level of trust and peace of mind.”

Brought to New Zealand by Armstrong’s, the new models are available to order and test drive from 27 th February.

“The new models are perfect for New Zealand roads and conditions and complement the Kiwi lifestyle, yet offer their own distinct personalities,” said Mr Rutherford.

“The X55 can be thought of as bold design meeting intelligent performance, made for urban lifestyles and active families. Its striking exterior styling, athletic proportions and distinctive lighting signature give it a confident road presence, while the interior delivers generous space, luxury and a high-tech, driver-focused environment.

“The B30 is adventure orientated and combines rugged looks with a spacious cabin and intuitive technology. The B30’s exterior design emphasises its excellent offroad credentials. It is capable and durable yet doesn’t compromise passenger comfort.”

Key safety specification shared by both the X55 and B30 includes six airbags, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems including Blind Spot Detection, Intelligent Cruise Assist, Lane Departure Warning (X55) or Lane Keep Assist (B30), Autonomous Emergency Braking and Forward Collision Warning, all of which contribute to its five-star VSRR score.

The X55 mid-size SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine (138kW/ 305Nm) and inside the vehicle features a 10.1-inch Central control screen and 10.25-inch LCD instrument screen, Wireless phone connection and a full black interior.

It is available in a choice of six exterior colours including premium two-tone paints and is complemented by LED headlights, daytime running lights and taillights.

The B30 Medium SUV features the same powerful 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, with the additional option of a Hybrid EV powertrain available in 2WD and AWD. The Hybrid powertrain boosts power to 301kw and 685nm of torque.

In keeping with its offroad credentials, the B30 offers four different drive modes as well as Hill Descent Control and Hill Hold Control. It also features 215mm ground clearance, the increased ride-height significantly enhancing its exploring ability and making it well suited to most camping and light off-the-beaten track experiences.

Additional features include fold-flat seats (perfect for camping getaways), almost 1500-litres of boot space (when seats folded down), heated and ventilated front seats, larger 10.25-inch LCD Instrument and 14.6-inch Centre screens.

Pricing for the new models, together with more extensive specification information including accessories as well as details of the dealer network, will be released at the end of February.

“Aspiring BAIC owners will be really impressed with the value proposition, not just the pricing itself but the quality and performance of the vehicles and the level of equipment provided alongside the seven-year warranty,” said Mr Rutherford.
