Evnex has launched the E2 Flex EV charger that delivers advanced smart charging at an affordable price.
The E2 Flex is designed to complement a rapidly changing EV market in New Zealand, where prices are falling with offshore brands like BYD now offering new EVs for less than $30,000.
New data released by Evnex alongside today’s announcement shows the average amount of energy used per EV home charging session in New Zealand has almost doubled in the last four years, rising from 7.3 kWh in 2021 to 13.3 kWh in 2025.
Evnex CEO Ed Harvey said the increase is due to EV batteries getting bigger and vehicle range continuing to climb.
“The reality is that brand new EVs will use more energy per charging session, however they’ll need to be plugged in less often due to increased battery capacity and range.
Harvey added that many Evnex customers are taking advantage of off-peak pricing to charge virtually for free.
“One of the great features of our chargers is their ability to schedule charging to take place overnight or during low-cost tariff windows, when many energy companies offer cheap or free power.
“Around two-thirds of our customers charge at night with many of them charging for free using solar or free power windows. It’s a great way to save and it’s also better for the environment as it reduces loads on New Zealand’s grid during peak times, which are more likely to include fossil fuel generation.”
Built for the new age of higher-capacity EVs and cost-conscious households, the E2 Flex gives drivers a simple, reliable, and fast way to charge at home from just $799.
“Many EV owners want to start with simple, cost-effective home charging that gets them to a full battery quickly,” said Harvey.
“The E2 Flex meets those needs perfectly. It charges up to four times faster than a standard wall socket, has built in home overload protection, and offers smart off peak scheduling, all at a sensible price”.
The charger is the first in New Zealand which works off the grid, while offering an easy upgrade path to solar smart integration.
“Flexibility is in the name,” Harvey added. “You start simple, and then if you install solar in the future, the upgrade is seamless. It’s about giving EV drivers more choice without compromise.”
Unlike many entry-level EV chargers on the market, the E2 Flex includes built-in home overload protection. This safety feature monitors household electricity demand and automatically slows or pauses charging if the system detects risk of overloading.
As more homeowners default to lower-cost options that often lack this safeguard, the E2 Flex, and all Evnex chargers, offer peace of mind that their home is protected.
Designed and manufactured in Christchurch, the E2 Flex includes a four year residential warranty and expert local customer support. It is compatible with all major EV brands and can be installed by any licensed electrician, with Evnex also offering fully installed options through its installer network.
The E2 Flex is available now across New Zealand via evnex.com/nz, with installation options and local customer support available nationwide.
