GWM Tank 300 Hi4‑T PHEV NZ Price and Specs

New models

New Zealand’s off‑road landscape is bracing for a major shake‑up. GWM has officially revealed pricing and full specifications for the Tank 300 Hi4‑T Plug‑In Hybrid (PHEV), and it’s already shaping up to be one of the most compelling 4×4 launches of 2026. Tough, tech‑packed, electrified, and offered in two feature‑rich variants—Lux and Ultra—the Tank 300 PHEV is engineered to deliver rugged capability with modern hybrid efficiency.

Under the bonnet sits a 2.0‑litre turbo engine paired with a powerful electric motor, combining for a massive 300kW and 750Nm of torque—numbers that rival premium 4×4 offerings at nearly double the price. This electrified muscle fires the Tank 300 from 0–100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds, an astonishing figure for a ladder‑frame SUV focused on trail toughness rather than track times.

A sizeable 37.11kWh battery supports an EV‑only range of up to 115km (NEDC), ideal for urban commutes or near‑silent off‑road exploring. Hybrid mode returns a thrifty 8.3L/100km, proving that capability doesn’t have to come at the cost of efficiency. DC fast‑charging from 30–80% takes just 24 minutes, while a full AC recharge completes overnight in 6.5 hours.

Campers and tradies will appreciate the 6kW V2L (vehicle‑to‑load) capability, which lets the Tank power tools, appliances, or entire campsite setups directly from the battery.

Many modern SUVs look tough but lack real off‑road hardware. The Tank 300 Hi4‑T PHEV, however, is built on a legit ladder‑frame chassis with serious 4×4 credentials:
• Part‑time 4WD with 2H, 4H, and 4L modes
• Low‑range transfer case
• Rear electric diff lock (standard)
• Tank turn assist
• Crawl control

Opting for the Ultra adds a front diff lock—giving twin‑locked capability normally found on high‑end off‑roaders costing significantly more. Suspension comprises double wishbones up front and a multi‑link live axle at the rear, delivering a strong combination of comfort and articulation.

With a hefty 3,000kg braked towing capacity, the Tank 300 PHEV shows it can haul as well as it crawls—matching established diesel rivals while offering far more torque.

The Tank 300 has never been shy with its styling, and the PHEV brings an even sharper, more modern edge. LED headlights with DRLs, sequential indicators, a machine‑grey grille, and two‑tone 18‑inch alloys all come standard on the Lux variant. New for 2026 is the Sundrift Sand colour—an earthy, adventure‑ready shade that complements the Tank’s squared‑jawed stance. Other premium colours are available for a modest fee.

Inside, the Lux impresses with leather‑accented seats, dual‑zone climate, a 12.3‑inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone mirroring, and ambient lighting.

The Ultra ramps up luxury considerably with:
• Nappa leather
• Heated and ventilated front seats
• Driver massage function
• Heated steering wheel
• 64‑colour ambient lighting
• Memory seats with lumbar adjustment
This level of comfort puts the Ultra squarely in premium territory—despite its price tag undercutting major rivals.

Both variants receive a slick dual‑screen cockpit—12.3‑inch infotainment paired with a matching 12.3‑inch digital cluster. Wireless charging, multiple USB ports, and even a 240V boot outlet make the Tank as functional as it is futuristic. Adaptive cruise control, paddle shifters, auto hold, and smart keyless entry enhance day‑to‑day usability, while the Ultra adds memory mirrors and an auto‑dimming rear‑view mirror for an extra touch of refinement.

GWM backs the Tank 300 PHEV with an extensive suite of safety and driver‑assistance features, including:
• Seven airbags
• AEB with pedestrian & cyclist detection
• Blind‑spot monitoring
• Rear cross‑traffic alert with auto braking
• Traffic Jam Assist
• Hill ascent & descent control
• Traffic sign recognition
• Driver fatigue monitoring

This broad safety package makes the Tank a genuinely family‑friendly option—without sacrificing any off‑road credibility.

Despite its hybrid power, twin‑locked capability, luxury features, and advanced tech, pricing remains a standout strength.
• Lux: $63,990 + ORCs
• Ultra: $68,990 + ORCs
These figures dramatically undercut similarly equipped off‑roaders, many of which push well past the $90K mark without offering electrified drivetrain options or comparable equipment levels.

The GWM Tank 300 Hi4‑T PHEV lands in dealerships from early April 2026—just in time for adventurous Kiwi buyers to make it their next go‑anywhere, tow‑anything, power‑everything SUV. With its blend of hybrid muscle, hardcore hardware, modern tech, and sharp pricing, it’s shaping up to be one of the most disruptive entries into NZ’s off‑road scene in years.
