Mitsubishi NZ announces all new ASX

Road Report

Mitsubishi NZ says it has succeeded in bringing a light weight SUV with impressive fuel economy to the New Zealand market. The ASX marks the company’s success in integrating the simple functionality and compact size of the hatchback with the utility and style of an SUV.

Under the bonnet, the 2.0 litre DOHC MIVEC Petrol Engine will suit many, while the 1.8 litre DOHC MIVEC Intercooled Turbo Diesel Engine inside the 4WD Diesel Sport will appeal to those customers who have been yearning for a diesel option from a Mitsubishi passenger car. The two MIVEC engine options deliver excellent driveability and impressive fuel economy. Fuel economy and CO2 figures on the 2WD models are 7.9 L/100Km and 184 g/Km respectively, while the 4WD comes in at 8.1 L/100Km and 188 g/Km. The Sport model rounds out the range with fuel economy of 5.9 L/100Km and C02 emissions of 155 g/Km.

Once inside ASX the new refinements are immediately evident. From the soft touch dash to the newly designed 3D embossed seat fabric option, the ASX is the perfect blend of practicality and style.

Smart technology was a key focus during the design and planning stages of this vehicle. All three sport models are equipped with steering wheel mounted audio controls and Bluetooth on the Sport Models. The new one touch start engine is a new feature and is another touch that sets the ASX apart from its competitors. ASX Drivers will also reap the benefits of Electronic Power Steering and the high ride height of the ASX, while the light weight impact resistant front guard will minimize the damage from small impact items like shopping trolleys in supermarket car parks.

“The ASX is such a smart, efficient package we think city dwellers who own hatches and sedans will see it as a ‘step up’”, said Mitsubishi Head of Sales and Marketing Strategy Daniel Cook. “All the SUV plusses like lots of space flexibility and the panoramic driving position, plenty of vitality and ooomph, but without the bulk that often just isn’t practical in the city and suburbs”. Previewing the new ASX, Cook said he couldn’t imagine a vehicle that was better placed to meet the demands of such a wide range of drivers.

“With life moving so fast these days, our customers need a smart car that can keep up with their active lifestyles. The all new Mitsubishi ASX gives them everything they need, and even a few extras they might not expect. This truly is a feature-packed vehicle that will not disappoint,” said Cook.

Buyers will have a wide range of ASX models to choose from, with two 2WD models and three 4WD variants. The 2WD LS is an extremely well specified base model, while the 2WD Sport model boasts a number of creature comforts not available on the LS. Amongst the 4WD range is the well specified
4WD LS and 4WD Sport, while the 4WD Diesel Sport rounds out the range.

All ASXs will be available in a variety of paint colours including the new Kingfisher Blue and Titanium, as well as Rose Red, Cool Silver, Amethyst Black, Atlantic Blue, and Cardrona White.

As with all other new Mitsubishi vehicles, the ASX will be backed by Mitsubishi’s Diamond Advantage warranty: 10 year/160,000 Powertrain Warranty, 5 year/130,000 New Vehicle Warranty and 5 year/130,000 Roadside Assist. . ASX goes on sale at Mitsubishi Motors Dealers from August 1st  2010.
