2020 Levorg – prepare to be assimilated

New models

With apologies to Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek fans, but the Levorg name is just too close to the Borg to pass up, and now the 2020 model year of Subaru’s turbocharged, performance sports wagon, the Levorg 2.0GT-S has arrived.

Established as an attention-grabber, the Levorg is the sleek, smart, spiritual successor to the much-missed Legacy GTB wagon.

To celebrate the release of the revised Levorg, Subaru of New Zealand has taken the opportunity to further enhance the already high specification performance wagon by adding extra kit to the standard model.

Cosmetically speaking, the Levorg sees something of a black out, with a matt black finish over the usually chromed accents, black badges, a black mesh grille and 19-inch black STI alloys with cross drilled brake rotors and an STI strut brace for improved handling.

It’s not all about cosmetics clearly, so what’s powering the Levorg?

At the heart of the all-wheel-drive Levorg is a two-litre direct injection Boxer engine with its 197kW at 5600rpm and 350Nm of peak torque output from 2400 to 5200rpm, while the suspension underpinnings have been breathed upon by Bilstein.

The Subaru Levorg package offers multiple configurations to suit every lifestyle, offering the space you need for work or play but without a crippling petrol bill to accompany it.

Fuel consumption is a moderate 8.7l/100km.

Customer demand for the Levorg precluded a media drive at time of launch, however, in lieu of NZ Company Vehicle driving the vehicle:

“The Subaru Levorg is my vehicle of choice,” says Wallis Dumper MD of Subaru New Zealand, “and is the perfect drive to escape the city. What some Euro brands offer as optional extras, at many thousands of dollars more, are simply standard specification on the Levorg.

“If you want a performance vehicle and enjoy driving yet want practical space for loading up for your escape time, this Subaru delivers in abundance, whilst leaving capital in the bank for those home or business needs,” Mr Dumper adds.

The Levorg sports wagon will continue to be available with the eight-speed Subaru Lineartronic Transmission (SLT), with paddle shift. It is coupled with Subaru Intelligent (SI) Drive, which features multiple performance modes to suit a wide range of driving styles, from sporty to economical.

Like all Subaru models, the Subaru Levorg comes with a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating and has seven airbags positioned throughout the cabin.

Featuring Subaru’s award-winning, third-generation EyeSight technology, Pre-collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Sway Warning and Lead Car Alert.

Further driver aids include Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Detection and a front and side camera to make parking easier.

For all-round luxury and comfort, the Subaru Levorg is decked out in premium leather upholstery (with 10-way power driver’s seat memory) and heated front seats.

The easy pinch and swipe accessibility of a seven-inch touch screen allows you to enjoy features, such as Apple Car play and Android auto. Built in satellite navigation is another feature.

As a single specification model, the Subaru Levorg two-litre GT-S is priced at just $57,990. A striking new colour has been added to its seven-hue palette, with the sophisticated Cool Grey now available.
