Sales continue to climb

November new commercial vehicle registrations at 2,935, the highest November new commercial registrations since the MIA began collecting records in 1981.  It’s the third month in a row that records have been the highest since records began says David Crawford, chief executive officer of the Motor Industry Association.

There were10,388 new vehicles sold in November compared to 8,581 in November 2012. November registrations of new commercial vehicles were up massive 40 percent and passenger car sales up 15 percent  up on November 2012, a combined increase of 21 percent . Year to date, there have been more new vehicles sold than for all of 2012 (104,408 year to date 2013 compared to 100,795 for full year 2012).

Toyota remains the market leader for the month of November with 24.4 percent market share (2,535 units) with Ford second on 11 percent (1,146 units) and Holden third with 9.2 percent (952 units).

Passenger car sales YTD were up 7.5 percent  on the same period last year with 7,453 new cars sold in November, the highest November monthly registrations since 1984. Toyota retained the largest market share of passenger car registrations in October with 23.4 percent  (1,746 units), followed by Holden with 9.2 percent  market share (685 units) and Ford with 8.3 percent  (618 units).

Toyota Corolla remains the top selling passenger model with 8 percent  market share (626 units), followed by Toyota RAV4 with 4 percent  and Holden Commodore at 3 percent . The Mazda CX5 and Toyota Yaris were the next best-selling models, also with 3 percent  each of market share.

Commercial registrations are a whopping 28 percent  ahead over the same year to date period in 2012. Toyota had the largest November market share for commercial vehicle registrations with 789 units (26.9 percent ). The Toyota Hilux was also the top selling commercial model with 585 units sold, 20 percent  market share.  

This was followed by the Ford Ranger with 16 percent  (482 units) and the Holden Colorado at 9 percent  market share (255 units).  Year to date the Toyota Hilux remains the top selling commercial vehicle with 4,583 registrations (16 percent  market share) closely followed by the Ford Ranger with 4,352 registrations (15 percent  market share).

The sale of sports utility vehicles represented 26 percent  of all vehicles sales in November, followed by pick-ups/chassis-cabs at 19 percent , and small passenger cars at 18 percent

Crawford says that if the current strong sales of commercial vehicles continue in December it is likely we will see the best ever total annual registrations since the MIA began collecting records in 1981.
